Crocheted Clothes and Accessories for the Long-Legged Bunny, Bear, and Cat (1)

When I came up with the idea to make the trio of long-legged animals, the Bunny, Bear, and Cat, I wanted them to be toys kids could really play with. In addition to them just being a stuffed animal I wanted them to have clothes and accessories so that my kids could dress them up and play with them.

To be honest a toy set like this is something I have wanted to make for a while, it just took me a long time to figure out exactly what I wanted it to look like and then actually make it. I think it is something I would have liked as a kid, and I hope my kids will like it too. So far they are pretty excited about them. The cat has already been named Blueberry, and the bear is Cinnamon, and there have been requests made for more outfits.

I wanted to make a few different clothing options that could be mixed and matched between the 3 animals. I ended up with pants and overalls that can both be made either short or long, a dress, a shirt, a hat, and a couple of bag options.

I think it will be fun to play around with the patterns to make lots of clothes options. Just like you can make the pants and overalls long pants or shorts, you could add length to the dress to make it longer. You could add stripes, or just make lots of different color options for kids to choose from.

I kept all of the clothes designs simple with no closures, so they just pull on and off. I made them with the intention that they would be easily pulled up from the bottom because the bodies are skinnier than the heads (with the exception of the hat of course).

Dress

Dress in photos made with Loops and Threads Impeccable in Luxury

I made the dress a little so that it went a little ways down the legs but not too far, you could easily adjust the length of the dress to make it longer or shorter by adjusting the number of rows you work on the skirt

Dress is worked from the top down

ch 30, sl st together to make a circle

Round 1: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

Round 2: ch 1, sc in first 4 stitches, ch 6, sk next 6 st, sc in next 9 st, ch 6, sk next 6 st, sc in next 5, sl st to first sc to join (18 sc, 2 ch 6 spaces)

Round 3: ch 1, sc in each st around including ch from previous round, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

Round 4-8: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

Round 9: ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl st to first dc (60 dc)

Round 10-14: ch 2, dc in each st, sl st to first dc (60 dc)

Finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Shirt

Shirt in photos made with Loops and Threads Impeccable in Soft Rose

I finished the shirt with a slightly flared ruffle of double crochet along the bottom, if you prefer not to have the ruffle you can just continue with probably 2-4 more rows of single crochet until you have the length you want

The shirt is worked from the top down

ch 30, sl st together to make a circle

Round 1: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

Round 2: ch 1, sc in first 4 stitches, ch 6, sk next 6 st, sc in next 9 st, ch 6, sk next 6 st, sc in next 5, sl st to first sc to join (18 sc, 2 ch 6 spaces)

Round 3: ch 1, sc in each st around including ch from previous round, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

Round 4-7: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to first sc to join (30 sc)

Round 8: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (45 dc)

finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Pants

Pants in photos made with Loops and Threads Impeccable in Misty Blue

Pants can be made as long pants or shorts. I will tell you how long I make them for each of them but you can make them any length you want, just make sure to make both legs the same length. Stitch markers come in really handy when making the pant legs!

Pants are worked from the bottom up, you will make 2 legs and then join them, similar to the way the legs and bodies of the animals themselves were made

The cat is the only animal that I made with a tail, if you are making clothes for a cat or added a tail to one the other animals you will need to make a tail hole on the pants, check the note below for how to do this

Pant leg (make 2)

ch 16, join with a sl st to make a circle

Round 1: 1 sc in each ch (16 sc)

Round 2: 1 sc in each st (16 sc)

Repeat until you have 7 rows for shorts or 20 rows for pants (or the length that you want)

Cut the yarn after the first leg and set aside while you make the second, do not cut the yarn of the second leg

continuing from the second pant leg:

Round 1: ch 2, sc in each stitch of the first pant leg (this joins the two pant legs together), sc in each of the 2 ch stitches (this forms the crotch section of the pants), sc in each st of the second leg, sc in the other side of the 2 ch stitches (36 sc)

Round 2-8: sc in each st around *see note below if you need a hole for a tail

*Optional hole for tail- work rows 2-3 as written, then on row 4 find the center back of your pants and count 2 stitches to each side of the center for a total of 4 stitches, mark these, sc around until you get to your 4 marked stitches, ch 4, skip those 4 stitches, then continue to sc around to the end of the round (you will have 32 stitches and 1 chain 4 space in this round), then work rows 5-8 as written

Finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Overalls

Overalls in the photo made in Loops and Threads Impeccable in Fern

Like the pants, the overalls can be made long or short, you can adjust the length to be what you want, just make sure the two legs are the same.

The overalls are made in the same way as the pants but instead of stopping at the waist they have the bib and straps added

Pant Legs (make 2)

ch 16, join with a sl st to make a circle

Round 1: 1 sc in each ch (16 sc)

Round 2: 1 sc in each st (16 sc)

Repeat until you have 7 rows for shorts or 20 rows for long pants (or the length that you want)

Round 2-8: sc in each st around *see note above in pants section for optional tail hole*

finish off, cut yarn

Bib

find center front of pants and mark 4 stitches to each side for a total of 8 stitches

Row 1: sc in the 8 marked stitches along center front (8 sc)

Row 2-4: ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch (8 sc)

ch 18 to make first strap, sl st to opposite side of center back (straps cross in an x on back so about 4 stitches over from the center)

cut yarn, join to other corner of bib, ch 18, sl st to other side of center back (you want there to be about 8 stitches in between just like the bib on the front)

finish off and weave in all ends

Hat

Hat in photo made in Loops and Threads Impeccable in Green Lagoon with Pom Pom in Heather

Begin with a magic ring

Round 1: in mr ch 2, 10 dc, sl st to first dc to join (10 dc)

Round 2: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, ch 8, sk 2 st, 2 dc in each of next 3 stitches, ch 8, sk 2 st, 2 dc in each of next 2 st, sl st to first dc to join (12 dc, 2 ch 8 loops)

Round 3: ch 2, 2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next, 10 dc in ch 8 loop, [2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next] 3 times, 10 dc in ch 8 loop, [2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next] twice, sl st to first dc to join (38 dc)

Round 4: ch 2, dc in each st around, join with sl st to first dc (38 dc)

Round 5: ch 1, sc in each stitch around, join with sl st to first sc (38 sc)

finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Make small pom pom to attach to the top of the hat if desired, I wrapped some yarn a bunch of times around 3 fingers, slipped it off, tied it in the middle, trimmed it, and tied it onto the top of the hat, you could also use a small Pom Pom maker

Messenger Bag

Row 2-18: ch 1, turn, sc in each stitch across (10 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn

Fold rectangle so that the 7 bottom rows match up with the next 7 row and you have 4 rows left above

sc through both layers starting in the bottom corner (along the folded edge) and sc in the ends of each of the 7 folded rows (do not stitch above the doubled section), ch 28 to make the strap, sc in the top corner of the doubled section on the other side and down each of the 7 rows to the bottom corner working through both layers

finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Purse
