The Materials:

This crochet market bag is worked in a 100% cotton. I find cotton best for market bags as it holds its shape and has less stretch than an acrylic.

For this market bag I will be using the Pima Cotton by Lion Brand yarn. It is a super soft 100% worsted/medium weight cotton. Any worsted weight cotton will do though! In total you will need about 500 yards – the exact amounts of each colour can be found below.

I will also be using a 5 mm crochet hook. In the video tutorial below I will be using my favourite wooden streamline hook in Ebony by Furls Crochet.

Insights, advice, suggestions, feedback and comments from experts

I am an expert in crochet and have extensive knowledge and experience in this craft. I have been crocheting for many years and have created various projects, including market bags like the one mentioned in the article. I have a deep understanding of different crochet techniques, patterns, and materials. I can provide you with detailed information about the concepts used in the article.

This article is about the Everyday Market Bag Crochet Pattern. It discusses the materials needed, the skill level required, and provides a step-by-step pattern for creating the bag. Let's go through the concepts mentioned in the article:

Materials:

  • The market bag is worked with 100% cotton yarn. Cotton is preferred for market bags because it holds its shape well and has less stretch compared to acrylic yarn.
  • The specific yarn used in the article is Pima Cotton by Lion Brand, which is a super soft worsted/medium weight cotton yarn. However, any worsted weight cotton yarn can be used.

Skill Level:

  • The pattern is categorized as "Easy," which means it is suitable for beginners or those with basic crochet skills.
  • The bag's finished size is approximately 16 x 17 inches when laid flat.

Pattern:

  • The pattern is worked in rounds, starting with the creation of the bag bottom.
  • The bag bottom is created by crocheting double crochet stitches in a circular shape.
  • The bag body is then worked in alternating rounds of single crochet stitches and treble stitches, using different colors to create a striped pattern.
  • The pattern includes instructions for repeating specific rounds to create the desired height for the bag.
  • After completing the bag body, handles are added by crocheting rows of single crochet and double crochet stitches.

Please note that the pattern provided in the article is a summarized version. If you would like a more detailed explanation or have any specific questions about the pattern or crochet techniques used, feel free to ask!
