“Love You to Pieces” Valentine’s Day Wreath DIY

Last year we made Valentine’s Day cards with a “piece of my heart” theme, using a puzzle piece template (click here to see them!) I love how they turned out and I’m so excited to share this year’s Valentine’s Day craft with you!

This DIY Valentine wreath is made with dollar store and recycled supplies, so it’s super thrifty! It’s also easy enough that kids can help make it.

But what I especially love is that this puzzle piece heart-shaped wreath is just so darn cute! How fun is this to hang up on the door for Valentine’s Day or even the month leading up to it! And I do love myself a good pun!

How to Make a Puzzle Piece Wreath for Valentine’s Day

Separate your puzzle pieces into 4 groups of 25 pieces each. Paint one group white, one group red, one group hot pink, and one group light pink.

Allow the pieces to dry and apply a second coat if needed.

Download, print and cut heart wreath pattern HERE. Trace the heart wreath pattern onto cardboard and cut. We used scissors to cut the outside of the heart and a craft knife to cut out the middle of the heart.

Use a hot glue gun to attach the puzzle pieces to your cardboard heart wreath so that all the cardboard is covered.

Apply a second layer of puzzle pieces over top of the first layer. Mix and match the colors and shapes to create an organic pattern.

Measure and cut a rectangle out of white cardstock that one-inch tall and eleven-inches wide.

Use a red marker to write the message “Love You To Pieces” in the center. It may be helpful to trace first in pencil to make sure that your sizing is correct.

Cut a fishtail in each end of the cardstock, then fold the ends into a “Z” or zig-zag shape — this will give the banner a 3-dimensional appearance. Attach each end of the paper banner to the heart wreath, so that it crosses the middle of the wreath.

  1. Valentine's Day Craft: Valentine's Day crafts are creative activities that people, especially kids, engage in to celebrate Valentine's Day. These crafts often involve making decorations, cards, gifts, or other items associated with the theme of love and affection.

  2. DIY: DIY stands for "Do It Yourself." It refers to the practice of creating or repairing things by oneself rather than relying on professionals or pre-made products. DIY projects are often seen as a way to showcase creativity, save money, and personalize items.

  3. Puzzle Pieces: Puzzle pieces are small interlocking parts used to create puzzles. In this craft, puzzle pieces are used as materials for creating a wreath. They can be painted and arranged in a heart shape to form the wreath's base.

  4. Dollar Store: Dollar stores are retail stores that sell a variety of inexpensive items, typically priced at one dollar or less. Dollar stores are popular for finding affordable crafting supplies and materials.

  5. Recycled Supplies: Recycled supplies refer to materials that have been previously used and are repurposed for a different use. In this craft, a recycled cardboard box is used as a base for the wreath.

  6. Art Supplies: Art supplies are materials used for artistic expression, such as paints, markers, brushes, paper, and more. In this craft, washable markers and craft paint in various colors are used to decorate the puzzle pieces and create the desired design.

  9. Twine: Twine is a strong thread or cord made of natural or synthetic fibers. It is commonly used in crafts for tying, wrapping, or hanging objects. In this craft, red and white twine is used as a hanger and to tie a bow on the wreath.

  10. Craft Knife: A craft knife, also known as an X-Acto knife or utility knife, is a sharp cutting tool used for precision cutting in crafts and other applications. It is often used to cut materials like cardboard or paper.
